So, thanks to our editor, Marisa Gatto, The Agenda regularly posts brief highlights of recent programs, normally under two minutes long. We try to find a moment or two in a program where there is a particularly interesting thought or exchange, and which also gives a sense of the broader, long-form conversation.
All of these highight videos can be found on The Agenda's YouTube page, or on our own website. Here are a few recent examples of highlights:
A Debate Over the Republican Party
Our clips can give a taste of a dynamic debate on a hot topic. Below, New York Magazine's Jonathan Chait and the Daily Beast/Newsweek's David Frum debate whether Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is a particularly dishonest politician:
Rape in the Congo
Our highlights can give us insight into an important but poorly-understood problem. Here Thomas Kwasi Tieku takes on two tough questions: why is rape so prominent in the Democratic Republic of Congo? And why isn't the government doing more about it?
A Good Yarn About the Guess Who
Clips can also encapsulate a really good story a guest has shared on The Agenda. For example, legendary rock n' roll musician Randy Bachman shares the interesting tale about how his old band, The Guess Who, got its name:
One Intellectual Heavyweight Disses Another
The Agenda is a place where widely-read thinkers can come and share their ideas. While sometimes their ideas can take a while to explain, at other times an argument can be laid down in a matter of seconds. Here's historian Niall Ferguson explaining why he disagrees with Jared Diamond, author of the bestseller Guns, Germs and Steel:
Giving Voice to the Marginalized: Foster Children
Our program is sometimes a place where those who are often voiceless in our society have a chance to be heard. Below, a clip from a youth who was "aged out" of the foster care system:
A Tribute to Canada
Other times, there's a moment in one of our programs where you get a better appreciation of where you live:
