As part of TVO's "Why Poverty?" coverage, I reached out to Tom Cooper, director of the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction, who helped connect me with some members of the Roundtable to discuss their thoughts on the final report and recommendations of the Commission for the Review of Social Assistance in Ontario. (I earlier wrote a summary of the review's findings.)
Who better to discuss the potential impact of this report than the people who live in poverty and navigate the social assistance system. So, I sat down with John Mills, Sandy Leyland, and Laura Cattari -- who has spoken about her experience on our program and her hope for the review earlier this year -- and I asked them what they like and don't like about the report, and how well it addresses the challenges they face in the system.
