It was reported last week that three Canadians travelled to northern Africa to attack an Algerian gas plant. Ultimately, two of those three Canadians participated in an assault on January 16 that killed 37 refinery workers. The two Canadians also died in the aftermath of the attack. (The third Canadian was arrested before the mission occurred). All three of the men were Muslims and two were converts to Islam.
Royal Military College of Canada professor Christian Leuprecht is a terrorism expert who has also studied Muslim-Canadian public opinion. We spoke about how people become radicalized, and what can be done to stop potential terrorists from committing violence. Watch our conversation above.
