Local blog-about-town Torontoist is listing out their heroes and villains for 2007. It's a pretty great blog idea because it combines the media habit of ending the year with lists with an extra fun bloggy dose of judgement.
It's good food for thought, so check it out here and agree and disagree at will. OPEN PARENTHESIS Personally, I have trouble with calling Indigo a villain. Any aesthetic qualms I have about the place or doubts about the book cred of the staff evaporate in the face of almost always being able to find the book I'm looking for. I'm not a read-at-random person most of the time, and hit the bookstore looking for something specific. Indie stores are great for browsing, because there's usually a little thought into the stock and the best of them (like Pages on Queen Street West) do a good job of displaying books worth picking up.
But when you need a specific book on South American history, and you need it right away Indigo's your guy. CLOSE PARENTHESIS
