Sarah Palin's email account has been cracked, and screenshots posted

by Mike Miner Wednesday September 17, 2008

Hackers have broken into Sarah Palin's personal email account, taken screen captures and posted them online.

Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager issued the following statement:

"This is a shocking invasion of the Governor's privacy and a violation of law. The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. We will have no further comment."

That statement seems to confirm that it was in fact the Republic VP candidate's email account. Gawker has posted several of the screen shots. Palin was recently accused of using a personal Yahoo! account to dodge subpoenas .

If the screen shots really are from Palin's personal account, it's an unprecedented invasion of privacy for a presidential campaign and a scary new development in Politics 2.0: Attack of the Trolls.

I will be on the edge of my seat waiting to see if anything comes out of this invasion that does damage to the Republican ticket or if it peters out as just a mean prank. Questions are already being asked about what impact it will have on the Troopergate probe, and whether any pertinent information will emerge from the hacked emails.
