On the day of the Dawson College shooting in Montreal a few weeks ago, our team of producers, our executive producer, and I had a quick editorial meeting on how we would have handled the story, had we been on the air. (We didn't sign on with our new program till the following week).

While we felt we should do something, we did not simply want to add to the speculative conjecture that was already plentiful in the media that day. Ours is not a news show, and the facts were in short supply on that day. So had we been on the air on that day, we decided we would not have done a program on the issue that night, but rather, waited until we could constructively add to the debate.

Then, quite suddenly, there was a second appalling shooting, this time in south-eastern Pennsylvania in an Amish community.

Well, we are now on the air. More details are known about the motives behind both shootings. And so, we intend to wade in tonight.

Many of our viewers are asking how in heaven's name could any of this happen, and will we ever know why?
