The Inside Agenda Blog

The new famous: vlogging your way to freedom

by Mike Miner Saturday March 8, 2008

I just got out of an interested panel called 'Quit Your Day Job and Vlog.' A vlog is a video blog. A blog is a weblog. (I never know how much to explain.)

Assembled were Lindsay Campbell, an actress who hosted Wallstrip. Now she's working on MobLogic:

There was Bre Pettis, who makes things on video, and was made internet famous (the phrase I am running into most frequently here at SXSW) by Make Magazine.

Zadi Diaz of Epic-Fu, and the very internet famous Lisa "Nova" Donovan, now of MadTV.

They all talked about the unwarranted sypmathy they get from friends when they find out they are still doing their TV on the Web. "It's a whole new medium," Diaz said.
Actually, I think TV, radio, print and online rae all one big media and I'm going to spend the rest of my time here trying to wrangle people like these onto our show. Hopefully some of their smarts and talent rub off on us. People were asking them how to get their videos watched by people beyond the typical web audience (one guy was taking video of himself at arm's length while asking his question). Hopefully, the Agenda will be bringing some of these people to our audience. We'll help how we can.
This post is kinda rushed, because I have to dash off to the next panel, and I can't decide whether to learn about the "next generation of the web which will exist outside of the desktop and mobile context" (UPDATE: I went to that one; it was mostly about how to design web pages for an iPhone - the gist was "bigger buttons that are clearly marked as being touch 'hot spots' on the iPhone's touch-sensitive screen") or about digital cinema (FURTHER UPDATE: the contextual thinger ended early so I popped in. They were going on about how the cost of theatre-quality digitial formats were coming down, which is a good thing).
Must run! Stay safe, everybody.
